EG has launched a new event, Jazz by Candlelight, that will tour all of EG’s completed residential development sites across New South Wales to bring a spark of joy amidst the challenges of isolation.

Residents at EG’s Bosco Apartments in Five Dock were the first to experience the evening, coming together on their balconies to listen and applaud a Jazz band performing in the central courtyard. A few weeks later, residents at the Flour Mill of Summer Hill braved the cool Autumn winds for a similar night of entertainment, performed across each stage of the development. The final event was performed by local musicians in the heart of Newcastle CBD at the Herald Apartments.

As candles were delivered to each doorstep, each community was invited to switch off their lights during the show and brighten the night with a single flame. Community Whatsapp groups were also formed to continue building neighbourly connections at this of crisis time and even share song requests before the event.

At dusk, local artists began to sing at each location. Despite some braving challenging weather, the performers have each expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to spread some kindness amongst the chaos.

Reminiscent of the spontaneous performances seen across Europe and shared globally online, the Jazz by Candlelight event across NSW is sure to be a fond memory for all in the months to come.

With an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from residents at each site, future music evenings are sure to be on the horizon.

Spirits were lifted enormously and a true sense of shared community was inspiring to all of us. Bravo and thank you again.

Resident, Bosco, Five Dock
