Michael sustains EG’s vision and strategic direction, maintaining a strong engagement with our projects.
Michael graduated with a BA with first-class honours in politics from the University of NSW, a MSc with distinction in sustainable urban development from Campion Hall at the University of Oxford, a PhD in history from the Australian Defence Force Academy and a PhD in urban planning from the University of Melbourne. He has also completed courses in management and finance at the Harvard and Stanford Business Schools. Michael was an Adjunct Professor at the Australian Graduate School of Management’s Centre for Corporate Change and previously Vice President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions and Secretary of the NSW Labor Council.
Michael is currently the Chair of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and Board Director of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation. He is also the Executive Director of Willow and President of the Australia Defence Association. His experience in infrastructure, funds management and development runs deep. Past directorships include the ACT’s City Renewal Authority, ING RE, State Super, NRMA Insurance, ActewAGL, Icon Water, State Rail Authority of NSW, Sydney Metro Transport and ANZ (2000 Olympic) Stadium. In addition to this, Michael was a founding director of both Macquarie Infrastructure Group and Macquarie Goodman.
